During most conversations about tricking the metabolism, weight loss, or losing fat, I usually mention the word "anaerobic" a few times.
This is usually followed by a couple blank stares and sometimes a reply similar to "I think you mean 'aerobics?'" and then they roll their eyes. But, no, in this instance, I didn't misspeak.
The term "anaerobic" isn't common, but it simply means "without air".
If you didn't know that definition, then you probably didn't know that aerobic meant "with air". Interesting, huh? But what do these phrases actually represent?
When you do typical aerobic exercises, you require a lot of oxygen for your brain and lungs to withstand a constant motion and stress on the muscles for a prolonged period.
This can include and is not limited to running, jogging, swimming, Volkswagen squareback biking and other similar activities. These actions require lots of air to sustain constant cardiovascular motion.
With anaerobic activities, not nearly as much oxygen is required for completion because the exercises are typically intense, but very short.
Some typical anaerobic exercises include, squats, push-ups, crunches, etc. They get your heart pumping, and require effort, but not as much oxygen.
You can trigger your body to react differently than typical cardiovascular workouts.
For people that jog a few times a week, roughly 20 minutes or more, they gain 2 fat-burning benefits...
1. They burn calories as they're doing their exercise, during the jog.
2. They burn a little bit of stored fat immediately after the jog is completed.
See, these are two beneficial things about cardiovascular exercise that I'm not going to sneeze at.
However, with anaerobic exercise designed for tricking the metabolism, you can simply see better results and I'll explain why.
For those that attempt a more anaerobic-based lifestyle, based on weight and resistance training exercises, these people gain 3 fat-burning benefits...
1. They burn calories during their workout.
2. They burn a bit of stored fat immediately after the workout is done.
3. Their metabolism increases and burns more calories throughout the day due to added muscle mass.
That last bullet point is very important. Did you notice those special words "throughout the day"?
The cool thing about your muscles is that they require a lot of upkeep from your body. No, I don't mean that you have to do a lot of heavy lifting to maintain your muscles.
What I mean is that internally, your metabolism has to burn calories on overtime in order to keep your muscles functioning properly. Of course, that's good news for you!
That means, with weight or resistance training, you're causing your metabolism to burn calories 24 hours a day.
For instance, you can use a common weight training routine of 10-12 repetitions with light weight for 4-5 sets on a each body part to increase your metabolism.
So, for biceps, you would take a dumbbell in each hand and do 10 repetitions four times with a minute break in between. It's really that simple.
Just think about it. The real methods of tricking the metabolism is to take advantage of the natural actions that cause our bodies to burn more calories.
In this case, it's through anaerobic exercise. Try it out for yourself watch the fat melt away!
